Norman Mitchell Newmark, of Gahanna, formerly of Merrick, New York, and most recently of Wexner Heritage House, passed away Friday, January 29, 2010. He was born on June 1, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, the fourth of five children of Oscar and Minnie Newmark. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Barbara, his parents, brother Sidney Newmark, sisters Evelyn Stang and Nora Wiezel. Norman is survived by his daughters, Lisa Newmark (Dr. Arnold Good) and Lauren Friedman (Dr. David) and his grandchildren, Alex and Hanna Good and Mara and Andrew Friedman, brother Vigdor and sister-in-law Beverly Newmark, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Martin and Louella Glick, and many loving nieces and nephews and friends. After serving as a flight radio operator with the Army-Air Corps as part of the American occupation of Europe immediately following WWII, Norman attended and graduated from Adelphi University in New York with a B.A. in Business. His career path lead him to the publishing field, where he worked in the circulation department of Family Circle magazine. He then went on to become the national circulation manager for the New York Times magazine group. Throughout his life, Norman contributed his time and talents to many charitable and communal organizations, and served as president of his local civic association (in Merrick, NY) as well as his professional circulation executive’s organization (R.E.A.D.). He supported environmental, political, religious and humanitarian causes as well. After his retirement, he served as a volunteer for the Veterans Administration and the Columbus Jewish Day School. He will always be remembered fondly for his kindness, consideration, humor and devotion to his family. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs of Wexner Heritage House and Grant Hospital for the amazing care and love they showed for Norman during his last few months. Funeral service 11 am Monday, February 1, 2010 at THE EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 East Main Street, with Rabbi Michael Ungar officiating. Burial to follow at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed beginning Monday evening at the residence of Dr. Arnold Good and Lisa Newmark.
